Former Mountain Fuel Supply Co. president Marion Moore "Fid" Fidlar died Tuesday, April 9, 1991, at a Salt Lake hospital from complications due to diabetes and cancer.

Mr. Fidlar joined Mountain Fuel in 1943 as a senior geologist in Rock Springs, Wyo. He later moved to Salt Lake City, where he became Mountain Fuel's executive vice president in 1958 and president in 1962. He was named chief executive officer 10 years later.After his retirement in 1974, he served as a board director of several subsidiary companies and for a time was a senior board member of Mountain Fuel's parent company, Questar Corp.

Mr. Fidlar was born June 7, 1909, in Vincennes, Ind. He graduated from Indiana University, earning both undergraduate and graduate degrees, including a doctorate in geology. He was honored in 1964 with the university's Distinguished Alumni Service Award. In 1986 he received the geology department's Richard Owen Award.

In May 1937, Mr. Fidlar married Martha Elizabeth Thorn. Before coming to Mountain Fuel, he was employed as an assistant state geologist in Indiana and as a district geologist for Ohio Oil Co., now known as Marathon Oil.

Active in civic and industry affairs, Mr. Fidlar served as Chamber of Commerce president in both Rock Springs and Salt Lake City. He also was active in Rotary International and served on many boards, including the Utah Symphony, Westminster College, Utah Heart Association and the Rocky Mountain Oil and Gas Association.

Mr. Fidlar is survived by his wife, sister and several nieces and nephews in the West and Midwest.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at Evans & Early Mortuary, 574 E. 100 South, where the family will meet friends one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers, friends may send memorial contributions to their favorite charities or the Diabetic Center at Holy Cross Hospital.
