Thiokol Corp. has made shifts in management assignments that company officials say will allow for the safe and cost efficient delivery and operation of a quality space shuttle redesigned solid rocket motor.
Effective June 3, Bob J. Lyles will take over a new position with the main responsibility of promoting the redesigned rocket motor and large solid rocket motors for launch vehicles.Allan J. McDonald will become vice president and senior staff associate to manage environmental issues related to the use of solid rocket motors.
The business development, advanced program and technology organizations originally led by Lyles and McDonald will be combined to form an advanced programs office under director Charles A. Speak, vice president. George C. Alford will be named vice president of the redesigned solid rocket motor, replacing Speak.
R. Ross Bowman, vice president and assistant director in the operations organization, will have the added responsibility of leading the production support department, and Richard M. McQuivey will be assigned as vice president of operations support.
Donald E. Brown will become director of safety and productivity. His replacement as director of testing will be named later.
The company also plans to establish a separate profit center to further Thiokol's business in engineering and operational services. Richard L. Davis, director of advanced solid rocket motor programs, will take on that added responsibility.
