Willard Hunter "Bill" Lunt, age 86, passed away May 12, 1991, in Cedar City after a brief illness.
He was born October 20, 1904, in Cedar City, son of Henry Wilson and Roselia Hunter Lunt. He was married to Inez Knell on May 20, 1930 in St. George LDS Temple; she preceded him in death April 11, 1988. Mr. Lunt was an active member of the LDS Church serving in various leadership capacities and had served as a Seventy until health problems arose. He owned and operated, with his wife, Bill's Grocery; was a parts-man and tour bus operator Utah Parks company; drove bus for Greyhound Bus Lines for 37 years, during which time he was given several awards for his safe driving.Lunt was a City councilman for Cedar City, Chairman of the Cedar City Recreation Committee and served on the City Planning Commission. He was Studentbody President of West High School, in Salt Lake City, an an outstanding athlete in basketball and baseball and was Captain of the Basketball team. Furthering his education, Lunt enrolled at Southern Utah University and participated in basketball. He was active in Son's of Utah Pioneers and an active participant in the SUU Athletic Booster Club. Lunt was known for his wisdom and great patience.
He is survived by two sons; W. Nicholas Lung, Bountiful; Dr. C. Stephen Lunt, Cedar City; and one daughter, Judith Lee Lunt, West Valley City; one sister Mrs. Gerald G. (Olive) Smith, Salt Lake City; four grandsons, three granddaughters and seven great grandsons.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 16, 1991 at 11 a.m. in the LDS Cedar City First Ward, Rock Church in Cedar City. Friends my all Wednesday evening 6-8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Southern Utah Mortuary, 190 No. 300 West. Interment will be in the Cedar City Cemetery.
Family suggests contributions to the Willard H. and Inez K. Lunt Southern Utah University Athletic Scholarship Endowment Fund in lieu of flowers.
