Dennon and Sayhber Rawles, prominent jazz artists and choreographers, will teach classes at the University of Utah on Friday, May 17, and at Janet Gray's studio on Saturday, May 18. Their schedule of classes, open to all, is as follows:
Friday, 11 a.m., Marriott Dance Center Theater, informal discussion of "Audition Tips and the Realistic Job Market for Commercial Dancers."Friday, 6:30-8 p.m., MCD studio 40, open jazz class, followed by informal demonstration of concert work by the Rawleses, 8-9 p.m.
Saturday, May 18, 9:30-11 a.m., intermediate jazz class, Janet Gray studio, 3065 S. 1700 East; followed by advanced jazz technique, 11:15 a.m.-12:45 p.m. Charge for each class is $15.
The Rawleses work frequently as movie choreographers, having done "Staying Alive" with John Travolta and most recently Warren Beatty's movie, "Bugsy Segal." They are the artistic directors of Jazz Dancers Inc., a professional concert jazz company of Los Angeles, and have choreographed for Ann-Margret and Toni Basil, as well as for many commercials.
