The Davis County attorney's office is investigating the former manager of Clearfield's swimming pool.
Jerry A. Bowles, 49, was fired April 16 after an audit by City Treasurer Debbie M. Cardenas uncovered several financial irregularities.Bowles was responsible for counting and balancing the daily cash receipts, preparing an accounting worksheet and delivering the cash to the receivables department, according to Cardenas' written report of the audit.
"Mr. Bowles did not follow correct procedures for those responsibilities," Cardenas wrote in the report, dated April 25.
As a result, the pool funds between Oct. 1 and March 27 were about $1,735 short. Bowles admitted taking $100 and has repaid that amount, leaving a shortage of $1,633.24, the audit report states.
The city has turned the audit over to County Attorney Mel Wilson, who will review it to see if there was any criminal wrongdoing.
Despite the results of the audit, Clearfield City Recorder praised Bowles, saying "he has been the best aquatics manager the city has ever had."
