Undefeated Bill Blanchette led four Hawaii players onto the All-Western Athletic Conference baseball team and also was named the WAC baseball Player of the Year.
Utah and Brigham Young were each represented by a player on the fiorst team. Utah third baseman Mike Edwards is the lone repeat first-team selection. This season he hit .457 with 17 home runs and 60 RBI. Sophomore first baseman Chris Cooper is BYU's selection. He hit .319 with 15 homers and 51 RBI.BYU relief pitcher Ryan Hancock was named freshman of the year, after recording two wins, six saves and averaging two strikeouts per inning - 74 in 37 innings.
BYU pitchers Lance Clark and Dave Madsen and designated hitter Brent Brown made the second team.
Utah outfielders Mike Aranzullo and Mike Hughes and infielder Shaun Peters were honorable mention selections as was BYU outfielder John Wagner.
Les Murakami, who guided the Rainbows to the WAC championship, was named baseball Coach of the Year.
Blanchette pitched a 14-0 record, was twice a national player of the week, led the league with a 2.33 ERA, struckout 93, allowed 122 hits in 131.3 innings, hit .308 with three home runs and 36 RBI.
