Peggy Ashcroft, an Oscar-winning actress best known for her stage career, was in stable condition Friday in a north London hospital after suffering a stroke at her home, a spokesman said.
The 83-year-old actress was admitted to the Royal Free Hospital, near her home in Hampstead in north London, after experiencing the stroke Thursday.A spokeswoman for the hospital said today that Ashcroft was in stable condition but declined to provide additional information.
