SHARE YOUTH STRING PLAYERS COMPETE TODAY AT SLCC

More than 80 string players will compete in the first Melba Lindsay Burton Youth String Competition today at Salt Lake Community College.

Held as a memorial to Burton, a noted teacher who died last February, the competition is sponsored by the American WEst Symphony and Chorus. Prizes in four categories - elementary, intermediate, junior and advanced - total more than $2,000. In addition, a grand-prize winner will be selected to solo with the American West Symphony.Preliminary rounds Saturday will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with the finals and awards ceremony to begin at 6:30 p.m., all in the SLCC Technology Building.

The public is invited and admission is free.
