Alton DeGraw Baxter, age 69, passed away May 24, 1991, at the University of Utah Medical Center after a lingering illness.
Born September 1, 1921 in Cove, Oregon, a son of Francis Leroy and Sophia DeGraw Baxter. Married Marian Lois Westenskow on June 4, 1946 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.Served in the Navy as a radio operator during World War II. Taught Industrial Arts and Special Education in both Oregon and Utah for 24 years. Active member LDS Church, serving as ward mission leader at the time of his passing. Alton and his wife recently completed a full-time church education mission in Montana, where they labored among the Lamanite people of the Crow and North Cheyenne reservations.
A devoted husband and father, Alton is survived by his wife, Marian; three daughters, Karen Baxter and Mrs. Scott (LuAnn) Hansen, both of West Valley City; and Mrs. Ronald (Crysandra) Hammond, Montpelier, Idaho; 11 grandchildren; brother and sister, Norman Baxter, Baker, Oregon; Anita Bainter, West Valley City.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, 11 a.m., Academy Park 1st Ward, 4605 Westpoint Drive. Friends may call Monday, 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Golden Rule Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, and Tuesday, one hour prior to services at the church. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park.
