Spencer Leonard Sowby, 80, loving husband, father, and grandfather, died May 25, 1991 at the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo of causes incident to age.

He was born May 1, 1911 in Nephi, Utah, a son of Isaac George and Annie Martine Nielsen Sowby. He married Helen Johnson August 18,1938 in Manti, Utah. The marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDSTemple. He lived in Richfield nearly 40 years after marriage, where he was an auto parts and car dealer service manager. He moved to Orem in 1977. He was an active high priest in the LDS Church and served a mission with his wife in Mesa, Arizona in 1979. He was active in community service organizations and served at the Provo Temple for 5 years.Survivors include his wife, Orem; a daughter, Kathleen VanKomen, Provo; 2 sons, Stephen and wife Laurie, American Fork; Sherman and wife Karen, Fresno, Calif.; 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; a brother, Rulon, Bountiful; 2 sisters, Anna Mae Newton, Salt Lake City; and Mabel Hofstedt, Bend, Oregon. He was preceded by his parents and brothers, Shirley and LaMont.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 29, at 2 p.m. in the Orem Hillcrest 4th Ward 440 East 800 South. Friends may call Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State, Orem, and Wednesday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the ward chapel. Burial will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
