A severe storm system that swept northeastern Illinois spun off at least three tornadoes and killed two teenagers in a car.

High winds, hail and torrential rains Sunday caused damage throughout the area, closing roads and causing scattered power outages.Tornadoes touched down in Kane, Lake and Cook counties, said Paul Daily, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Chicago.

Bob D'Antonio said he saw a tornado hit a neighbor's house in Lily Lake, a sparsely populated area about 35 miles from Chicago.

"The guy's roof was like 40 feet in the air and, before it hit the ground, I was downstairs calling 911," D'Antonio said.
