BRITISH CHAMBER APPROVES STRICT CONTROLS ON PIT BULLS

The House of Commons early Tuesday approved a bill to control pit bull terriers and dangerous dogs in Britain but defeated an amendment to register all pet dogs.

The bill, approved 280-56 during an all-night session, calls for strict controls on the ownership of fighting breeds such as the pit bull. The Conservative government proposed the tough measures following several unprovoked attacks by pit bulls last month, including the severe mauling of 6-year-old girl.
