Film director and screenwriter Marin Scorsese was one of nine people who received honorary degrees Tuesday from Princeton University.
A Doctor of Fine Arts was given to Scor-sese for having films "distinguished by their originality of style and the intensity of their insight into the struggle between passion and virtue.""Taxi Driver," "Raging Bull," and the Oscar-nominated "Goodfellas" are among Scorsese's better known films.
The university also gave a Doctor of Laws to Secretary of State James A. Baker III. Baker, a 1952 graduate of Princeton, was honored for forging "a remarkable record of national leadership for over a decade."
