The body of a woman found just south of Yuba Dam in Juab County in March still has not been identified.

Juab County Sheriff Dave Carter said the body has some distinctive features that should make identification easier, but law enforcement officers still have not been able to identify the woman. The body has been buried in Nephi, Carter said.

"We are working on some leads on the murder," he said. However, the woman's body does not match any reports of missing women in the state. Carter said the woman is probably from out of state.

The woman, in her late 30s, had been shot a few weeks before the body was discovered.

It is the second unidentified body found in Juab County. Carter said another female body was found near Yuba Dam in 1978.

Carter said he attempted to identify that body again last February.

He said convicted killer Henry Lee Lucas told the sheriff from Millard County that he had killed the woman shortly after he killed a BYU student.

"He gave detailed information about the area where the body was found," Carter said. "I could have driven to it from the description he gave."

Lucas said the woman was a hitchhiker, Carter said. Lucas picked her up near Spanish Fork and drove to a town where they ate at a cafe. Lucas then said he drove to a place where there was water on both sides of the road. Carter said the description fits Juab Lake.

Lucas said he then drove along roads that could be the roads around Yuba Dam.

"We are still convinced Lucas confessed to the murder of the woman we found near Yuba Dam," Carter said. "It bothers me to have her unidentified."

Carter said he is hoping the body found recently can be identified more quickly. "If someone would report her missing it would help us."
