BYU All-American Nicole Birk, Alpine, shattered her school record in the 3000-meter run at the TAC Mobile Championships Saturday to qualify for the World University Games in Sheffield, England, July 14-25.
Birk was clocked in 9:09.07, erasing her two-day-old record of 9:15.6 set in the trials Thursday.To qualify for the world meet, Birk placed first of all collegian runners. She was seventh overall among some of the best runners in the world.
"Nicole will be USA's No. 1 representative at the meet," said coach Patrick Shane. "What she is most excited about is getting a USA uniform."
