An 11-year-old girl was listed in stable condition at Primary Children's Medical Center Tuesday after being hit by a van while riding her bicycle Monday evening.
Monica Prettyman was riding in the crosswalk on 12300 South at 700 East shortly after 7 p.m. when she was hit by a van driven by Barbara Day, Draper, as the van was making a left turn, according to Draper Police Chief Hans DeHaas. The girl was initially listed in critical condition after being flown from Alta View Hospital to Primary. DeHaas said she suffered several internal injuries, including a collapsed lung.
The driver of the van "apparently made a statement that the sun had some effect and caused her not to see the little girl," DeHaas said. The van was traveling between 13 and 15 mph at the time of the collision. A citation for "failure to yield right-of-way" will be issued to the driver, he said.
