JORDAN PREMIER QUITS

King Hussein accepted Tuesday the resignation of his prime minister and named his foreign minister to form a new Cabinet, a senior government official reported.

The replacement of Prime Minister Mudar Badran with Foreign Minister Taher Masri was widely seen as a reaffirmation of Jordan's commitment to a negotiated settlement of the Arab-Israeli dispute.Masri, a native of the West Bank town of Nablus, supports efforts by Secretary of State James A. Baker III to get Israel and the Arabs to negotiate a peaceful settlement - an effort that has so far stalled over Israeli and Syrian differences.
