BLM HONORS 26 UTAHNS FOR EFFORTS TO SAVE ARCHAEOLOGICAL HERITAGE

Twenty-six Utahns have been honored by the Bureau of Land Management for their volunteer efforts towards preserving the state's archaeological heritage.

State director James Parker presented the awards Saturday during the annual meeting of the Utah Statewide Archaeological Society. "In most instances, these people have volunteered time and again for several years, often giving as much as 20 to 30 hours a week consistently for BLM projects," he said.Those receiving the "silver trowel" awards were Darlene Johnson and Lawrence DeVed, Uintah Basin Chapter; Jeff Roberts, Denise Roberts, Corinne Springer, Jill White, Rosalie Peterson and Delma Jukes, Central Utah Chapter; Margene Hackney, Robert Hackney, Chanel Atwood and Joan Taylor, Castle Valley Chapter; Margaret Patterson, Jean Akens, Kent Dalton and Marilyn Petersen, Moab Chapter; Vonn Larsen, Utah County Chapter; JoAnn Vosskuhler and Roy MacPherson, Salt Lake-Davis County Chapter; K.C. Benedict, Trail of the Ancients Chapter; and Geralynn McEwen, Willis Osborn, Richard Snell, Royal Sorensen, Amy Ross and Fletcher Shelton, Dixie-Jennifer Jack Chapter.
