Agriculture Secretary Edward Madigan will travel to Europe next week to discuss world trade reform negotiations with his counterparts, officials said Thursay.
In addition, Madigan was scheduled to address the World Food Council on Wednesday in Helsingor, Denmark, and to speak two days later to the Berlin Press Club in Berlin, Germany.The trip will be the first official trip outside the United States by Madigan, a former congressman, since he took office last March 8. He has said freer agricultural trade will be one of his priorities.
In an announcement, the department said Madigan's speech to the World Food Council would stress the need for reform of agricultural trade rules. It said Madigan also would meet with agriculture ministers to discuss the ongoing trade negotiations.
