PIANIST WHO RETRIEVED MANUSCRIPTS DIES

Pianist Malcolm Frager, who helped retrieve Mozart and Beethoven manuscripts that had been removed from Germany after World War II, has died at age 56.

Frager died Thursday at Berkshire Medical Center. He was a Christian Scientist and his family declined to give the cause of death. His last public performance was in July with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.In 1978, Frager discovered a cache of more than 1,000 manuscripts by Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Schumann, Mendelsohn and others that had been considered lost since World War II.
