Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf could receive more than $5 million for his as-yet untitled autobiography.
Bantam Books said Sunday it has a contract with the 56-year-old commander of U.S. forces in the Persian Gulf war.He will begin working with a writer, who has not yet been chosen, after his Aug. 31 retirement from the Army, Bantam said.
The New York Times reported Monday that a senior editor at Random House said Random House had bid $5 million. That suggested Bantam paid more.
Schwarzkopf's agent, Marvin Josephson, said five publishers made offers. Neither he nor Bantam would divulge terms of the deal, which includes both domestic and world rights.
