DEATH: MAURICE RHODES

VERNAL, Utah-Maurice Rhodes Briggs, 72, died June 23, 1991, at his home, of cancer.

Born October 18, 1918 in Heber, Utah, to Archie and Gladys Lindsay Duke Briggs. Married Rhoda Snyder; she passed away November 1966. Married Lila Holmes, May 28, 1967, in Reno, Nevada. He was a heavy equipment operator, working 18 years with the State of Utah Road Dept. Member LDS Church. Avid hunter, fisherman, loved camping and snowmobiling. He was raised by an aunt and uncle, Hazel and Albert Giles. Preceded in death by a twin brother, Archie Briggs, a sister, Lois Fox, half brother, Robert Duke, half sister, Gladys Lawton, and a stepson, Norman Shimer.Survived by his wife, Lila, Vernal; daughters, Mrs. Wally (Linda) Brereton, Orem; Mrs. Caarles (Larna) McPhie, Heber; son, Brent M. Briggs, Heber; stepdaughters, Mrs. Herb (Naione) Snyder, Vernal; Mrs. Arvid (Leta) Sullivan, Vernal; stepson, Dennis Shimer, Bowling Green, Ohio; brother, Jim Duke, Heber; Ren Giles, Heber; sister, Donna Probst, Salt Lake City; Glenna Moulton, Heber; 23 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services Wednesday, June 26, 11 a.m., Second Ward LDS Chapel, Vernal. Friends may call 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. Interment: Heber City Cemetery, 3 p.m. Wednesday under the direction of Thomson's Vernal Mortuary.
