Police officers in Salt Lake City were expected to approve a two-year contract Wednesday hammered out between union leaders and city officials.
Union officials said ballots likely will be counted by Wednesday afternoon; approval is expected. The new proposal gives all officers a 2 percent cost-of-living increase, matching that given to all city employees. That pay raise begins July 1. But the contract includes other pay adjustments that will result in newly hired officers receiving the largest raises.
Officers with more experience will receive longevity raises beginning Oct. 1.
After July 1, 1992, starting officers will earn $1,734 a month, and the highest-paid officers will get $2,837 a month.
