Fire in a painting tank caused an estimated $10,000 damage at Titan Steel, 4155 S. 300 West, after flammable paint materials caught fire late Monday night.
Workers at the plant called the Fire Department after trying unsuccessfully to put out the fire with extinguishers and by closing a lid on the immersion painting tank.Fire Capt. Keith Hall said wind blowing through the open-air painting area fanned thick flames that had to be covered with a thick foam to put the fire out. There were no injuries and damage was contained to painting material in the tank, he said. The cause of the fire is still under investigation but is not considered suspicious.
