SUMMERHAYSES DO WELL AT UGA EVENT

If your name was Summerhays, you had a good chance of winning Friday at the UGA Junior Amateur at Alpine Country Club.

Twelve-year-old Boyd Summerhays, 11-year-old Carrie Summerhays and 9-year-old Mary Summerhays won three of the eight final matches, which concluded a week of competition among the best junior golfers in Utah.Boyd and Mary are children of Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Summerhays of Farmington, while Carrie is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Summerhays of Heber. Bruce and Lynn are brothers.

Boyd won the boys 13-14-year-old division with a 3 and 1 victory over Lance Richards, Carrie won the 11-12 girls division with a 3 and 2 win over Summer Fenstermaker, while Mary won the girls' 10-under division with a 4 and 3 victory over Annie Thurmond.

In the feature match of the day, Stephanie Brockbank beat her longtime rival Skyli Yamada 3 and 2 in the girls 15-17 division. In the boys 15-17 division, Chris Riding defeated Troy Lashley 4 and 3.

In other matches, Jill Steenburg won the girls 13-14 over Kami Whitehead 6 and 4, Noah Backman won the boys 11-12 over Zach Jacob 5 and 4 and Chris Matthews won the boys 10-under 2-up over Jake Ellison 2-up.
