EMERGENCY DECLARED IN 2 GEORGIA DISTRICTS

The Georgian legislature announced a two-month state of emergency and imposed a 10 p.m. to 7 a.m curfew Friday in two South Ossetian districts torn for months by ethnic violence, Tass news agency said.

The districts are Tskhinvali and Dzhava. The announcement in effect prolongs an earlier state of emergency in Tshkinvali declared on Dec. 12 and extended a month at a time.

South Ossetians, mostly Muslim, want to be an autonomous republic loyal to the Kremlin. The mainly Christian Georgians want control of South Ossetia.
