T.H. Bell, former U.S. secretary of education, will discuss "Education in Support of Freedom" at an interfaith community service open to the public 7 p.m. Sunday, June 30, at West Jordan's rodeo grounds.
As one of the kickoff events of West Jordan's Western Stampede "Heritage of Pride" celebration, the evening program will also feature Gordon Chiesa, assistant coach of the Utah Jazz, who will talk about "10 Steps in Overcoming Hurdles."Also part of the city's second annual interfaith celebration will be an F-16 flyover from the 419th Tactical Fighter Wing (Reserves) at Hill Air Force Base, while an interfaith choir co-organized by Linda Plouzek of the West Jordan Utah River LDS Stake and Veronica Brand of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church will furnish the music.
"This event is being put together by a tremendously dedicated group of individuals who have a vision of promoting better understanding," said Pastor David Butler of the Jordan United Methodist Church. "The evening will promote better community relations and raise consciousness of Utah's religious and cultural diversity."
