"Lovers of Freedom" is the theme of two Jehovah's Witnesses district conventions at the Dee Events Center on the campus of Weber State University.
The first district convention - to be attended by 5,000 delegates from Utah, Arizona, Idaho, Nevada and New Mexico - started Friday and runs through Sunday. The second convention is scheduled for July 5-7, when 5,000 delegates from Utah and Idaho are scheduled to attend.The two-convention total of 10,000 delegates makes up just a part of the projected attendance of 1.4 million delegates at the 144 district conventions scheduled for 61 different sites during June and July.
Participants in the current convention are Vernon Wheeler, baptism talk, 11:30 a.m. Saturday; and J.D. Shaw, public address, 2 p.m. Sunday. Wheeler offered a chairman's address Friday morning, with Lyman Swingle giving the keynote address that afternoon. A drama presentation, "Set Free to Promote True Worship," is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
The upcoming convention features the same drama presentation and other speakers - R.W. Rian, chairman's address; Bobbie Christian, keynote address and public address; and Lamar Bingham, baptism talk.
