Fire officials suspect juveniles started a fire in a Magna house Saturday night, and they're asking for help in apprehending the culprits.
Lt. Dennis Steadman of the Salt Lake County Fire Department said someone started the blaze at 8000 W. 3250 South in the unfinished basement. The home was vacant at the time of the fire. The fire started on a concrete floor, Steadman said, which is a sure sign the fire was intentionally set.
Nineteen firefighters responded to the call from neighbors who reported smoke coming from the vacant home. Steadman said it took 12 minutes to bring the fire under control.
Fire officials are hoping someone in the neighborhood noticed people in or near the property at the time of the blaze. If they did, Steadman encourages them to call the Fire Department at 799-4231.
The flames were confined to the basement. Damage has not been estimated at this time.
