AN OPERA HOUSE IN SCOTLAND

An opera house is imminent for Edinburgh, where the Empire Theatre will be rebuilt at a cost of more than $25 million in time for the festival of 1992. It originally seated 3,000, will be converted to a house of about 2,000, comparable to London's Covent Garden. The addition will make possible performances by Scottish Opera of Glasgow, and much wider participation by international opera companies in the world-famed Edinburgh Festival.
