CREIGHTON STILL ALIVE IN COLLEGE SERIES

The College World Series semifinals have a decided conference look.

Florida All-American John Burke outdueled Fresno State All-American Bobby Jones in a 2-1 pitchers' showdown, while Steve Hinton powered Creighton over Long Beach State 13-4 in elimination games Tuesday night. That set up rematches of conference rivals.

Fifth-seeded Florida (51-20) meets Southeastern Conference foe No. 4 Louisiana State (53-18) tonight at 5:37 p.m. MDT, and seventh-seeded Creighton (51-21) will face Missouri Valley Conference rival No. 3 Wichita State (65-12) in Thursday's 5:37 p.m. semifinal.

Wins by LSU and Wichita State would put them in Saturday's televised championship game on CBS. Loses would force a second semifinal in either bracket, those games to be played on Friday.

In Tuesday's opener, Burke (9-5) scattered seven hits over the first six innings and gave up one run and one walk while striking out seven. Rob Bonanno pitched two innings of scoreless relief and John Pricher hurled the final inning for his 12th save.
