Two of Utah's largest corporations are suing Salt Lake County to collect a combined total of $3.6 million they claim they overpaid in taxes last year.
Hercules Inc. officials want $2.1 million. Company officials claim the county assessed their property at $211 million when the true value is about $46.4 million.Kennecott Copper Corp. officials want $1.5 million, claiming the company was assessed at $670.1 million instead of $581.3 million.
Both companies paid their 1990 taxes under protest. County officials said the complaints are almost routine attempts to lower the amount of taxes paid.
