Irwin F. Winter, M.D., radiologist, age 76, died Monday, June 3, 1991 in a Salt Lake City hospital, following a stroke.
He was born June 12, 1914 to John G. and Aline Louise Jaton Winter in Parkston, South Dakota. He was graduated from Huron, South Dakota High School, from Huron College (B.A.) in 1935 and the University of South Dakota (B.S.) in 1937. Married LaVon "Bonnie" Luchsinger June 23, 1939. He was graduated from Rush Medical College in Chicago, Illinois in 1939 and interned at Washington Boulevard Hospital, Chicago. Served a residency at St. Mary's and Pima County Hospitals, Tucson, Arizona in 1940. Was a fellow in Radiology, Mayo Clinic 1941-44, received an M.S. in Radiology at the University of Minnesota in 1946. Was on staff, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota 1944-46. Practiced medicine at Swedish Hospital 1946-1948 in Seattle, Washington. Practiced medicine (radiology) Salt Lake City, 1948 to the present time, first at 463 East South Temple Street, then at 508 East South Temple Street from 1951 to 1990 and on request since 1985. He was a member of the American College of Radiology, Utah Medical Society; Salt Lake County Medical Society; Utah Radiological Society, and A.M.A. When he first came to Utah, he was radiologist at the Salt Lake Clinic 1948-1951 and was instructor at the University of Utah Medical School 1948-50. Had many hobbies and interests, such as shop work with metal and wood, the outdoors, firearms and hunting. A member of the Masonic Order - Argenta number 3, 32nd degree Scottish Rite-Shrine.Survived by his loving wife, Leona La Von (Bonnie) Winter; a sister, Fern E. Lammers, Visalia, California; brother, LeRoy Winter, Lakeland, Florida. Children who survive him are Kathleen Dee Galvin, San Lorenzo del Escorial, Spain; Brian Irwin Winter, Salt Lake City; Kent Lewis Winter, Cleveland, Ohio; grandchildren, Jason and Colm Galvin, Heather, Jennifer, and Nicole Therese Winter.
Funeral services will be Friday, June 7th at 1 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South, where friends may call Thursday evening from 6-8 and the hour prior on Friday. Interment, Larkin Sunset Lawn.
