An escape from the cellar is the goal of the Salt Lake Sting as they prepare for Friday night's home game against the San Francisco Bay Blackhawks.

The Sting are 1-5 and in last place in the American Professional Soccer League's Western Conference. The Blackhawks hosted the Sting in the season opener at Newark, Calif., where the teams engaged in a scoreless duel in regulation. In overtime, the game was decided when an errant Sting pass rolled into the Salt Lake goal, handing the victory to the Blackhawks. Since that stroke of bad luck the Sting have continued to struggle, on and off the field, the team coming close to folding on a couple of occasions.

Friday's game at Derks Field begins at 7:30 p.m.
