A Highland man is in stable condition at American Fork Hospital with a dislocated shoulder after falling into a stream near Horsedale Falls on the Alpine Loop Wednesday night.
Mark Smith, 25, fell into the stream about 8:45 p.m. when a log he was using to cross the stream broke. Smith managed to grab a branch as he was swept downstream but apparently dislocated his shoulder as he twisted in the current. The pain forced Smith to let go of the branch and he was swept farther downstream. After managing to pull himself from the stream, Smith walked to a nearby camp and contacted Mike Henrichsen and Jared Latimer, who hiked out and summoned help.
Utah County Search and Rescue responded and Smith was flown by helicopter to American Fork Hospital about 6 a.m. Thursday.
