J. Arthur Knudsen, a Salt Lake businessman and promoter of the Knudsen Cup Ski Race for high school students, died Wednesday. He was 84.
Mr. Knudsen was a former president of the University of Utah's Crimson Club, the Ambassador Club and the Old-Timers Athletic Association. He also sat on the board of directors for Mount Olivet CemeteryHe was best known for his efforts to promote winter sports, particularly among the youth. He initiated the Knudsen Cup Ski Race in 1942 to inspire youngsters to seek proper skiing instruction.
He owned and operated Knudsen Builders Supply.
Funeral services will be Saturday, June 8, at 11 a.m. at Evans and Early Mortuary, 574 E. 100 South. Interment will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Norway House, 7501 Vallejo St., San Francisco, CA 94123, or to Holy Cross Hospital.
