Brent Spiner, who plays the android Lt. Commander Data on "Star Trek: The Next Generation," wants the show to venture where no show has gone before. "Frankly, I think we're playing it a little safe," he said, adding the cast wants the show "to explode into a new dimension and take chances. I would love to see the key word for the final two years be controversy and shake things up." Spiner, whose character is known for its yellow eyes, is branching out by putting out an album of old standards titled "Ol' Yellow Eyes Is Back." Fellow "Trek" actors sing backup on one track, calling themselves The Sunspots. Spiner has sung in Broadway shows but says, "I don't want to be taking myself too seriously and saying I'm Roy Orbison here."
