For most people, Monday is merely June 10, 1991, but for residents of ZIP code 61091 it's 6-10-91, and they're not going to let the date slip by without a celebration.
"It's only once in a lifetime," said Bette Kuhn, postmaster in this small northwestern Illinois town. To celebrate, she will hand out cookies, soft drinks and balloons throughout the day."I've gotten letters from Ohio, New York, Nebraska, Maine, Oklahoma and Colorado," Kuhn said. "These people have sent me letters they want me to stamp. There are people who collect cancellations."
Kuhn, who is the post office's only employee, says she also expects a heavier-than-normal turnout of local residents who want to have cards and letters postmarked.
"I just hope they don't all come at once," she said.
