Salt Lake County sheriff's detectives are investigating a report from a woman who said her former boyfriend kidnapped her at gunpoint and then assaulted her.
A 25-year-old woman told deputies that she was about to get into her car parked at her home near 2200 East 3300 South Tuesday when a man approached her. The woman's ex-boyfriend told her he had a gun, ordered her inside the car and then drove away. After traveling several blocks, the woman reached for the car keys. The gunman slammed on the brakes, screeching the car to a halt. He grabbed the woman by the back of the head and started beating her head against the dashboard, a sheriff's report says.
Two people witnessed the assault and heard the man threaten to break her neck and kill her. He let the woman go when he saw the witnesses, and she escaped. The woman said the man had assaulted her three months ago and she obtained a restraining order.
