Thousands of people from all over Britain, including Prince Charles and Princess Diana, huddled under umbrellas in Hyde Park to hear Luciano Pavarotti sing in a downpour.

Prime Minister John Major came with his opera-loving wife, Norma, and actor Michael Caine, thoroughly soaked, said: "We would sit through a storm to see him. . . . He is a magical performer and nobody cares if they get wet."Organizers said the crowd was estimated at 125,000.

Hundreds of Pavarotti fans, some with children in tow, slept out all night to get a good position.
