Salt Lake-based developer The Boyer Co. will soon begin construction on a three-story, $20 million building here that will be leased to EG&G Idaho, the state's largest employer.
Kem C. Gardner, a partner in The Boyer Co., said the lease has already been signed with EG&G, which currently administers some $600 million in U.S. Department of Energy programs.Boyer owns a 65,000-square-foot facility here that it leases to EG&G.
Gardner said the 250,000-square-foot facility will be constructed on a 20-acre site on Fremont Avenue north of the Willow Creek building here. The facility will serve to consolidate some of the 1 million square feet of office space EG&G leases in Idaho Falls.
Designer of the building is MHT Architects Inc., Salt Lake City. Interwest Construction, also of Salt Lake City, will be the general contractor.
Gardner said the lease, which has been approved by the Department of Energy, requires the building be ready for occupancy in 18 months.
The lease is the largest that Boyer has ever signed with a single tenant, said Boyer spokesman Carl Cook. More than 100 companies expressed interest in providing proposals before Boyer was selected.
A spokesman for EG&G Idaho said the company supports the DOE in waste management, nuclear technology and defense. "In recent years waste management and environmental restoration programs are receiving increased emphasis. Improved technologies and processes are being developed for handling storage treatment and disposal of nuclear waste."
