The LeConte Stewart Festival will be featured at the Bountiful/Davis Art Center from Friday, Aug. 23 through Friday, Sept. 27. The exhibit will spotlight approximately 50 of Stewart's wsorks on loan from private collections. This is the first time some of them have been on public display.

An opening reception is planned for Friday, Aug. 23, from 7-9 p.m. Charles Loving will present a gallery talk about the artist at 8 p.m. Loving is assistant director of the Utah Museum of fine Arts.Stewart began painting landscapes in Davis County and surrounding areas in 1920 and continued to do so for approximately 80 years. Although called a "historian with a paint brush," Stewart said he didn't approach his work as a historian; rather, he responded to the images he saw.

He often told his students, "Everything you see in nature is in reflected light." Yet, he wasn't an impressionist; he preferred more subtle tones, such as violets and mauves.
