The Utah Botanical Gardens Horticulture Research and Extension Farm will host its 14th Annual Labor Day Weekend Open House Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is free.
The gardens - at 1817 N. Main in Farmington - attract hundreds of visitors every summer, and countless others have noticed the colorful plots as they drive the stretch of U.S. 89 near Lagoon.Guided tours of the gardens, conducted by staff members and garden volunteers, will begin at 9:30, 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. and at 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. Tours take approximately 45 minutes.
Utah State University master gardeners and garden volunteers will be on hand to answer any questions about plants in the garden. Visitors are invited to bring along samples of their ailing plants.
Other events scheduled:
- Pam Poulsen of the Utah Native Plant Society and Red Butte Gardens will give a lecture at 11 a.m. on wildflowers of the Wasatch Front.
- Susan Murphy will demonstrate methods of drying and preserving flowers at 12:30 p.m.
- Dick Stucki will demonstrate Dutch oven cooking at 2 p.m.
