The Utah Opera Guild will sponsor "Polo for Opera" at Pheasant Hollow Farm in Sandy on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 14-15.

Grounds will open at noon, and polo matches will begin 1 p.m. each day. General admission for both days is $3. A $35 ticket is also available, which will buy a buffet luncheon on Sunday, seating at shaded tables, table service for beverages and access to a no-host bar, the guild said. Two years ago, the opera guild sponsored polo matches as a fund-raiser and requests to repeat it have been overwhelming, the guild said.

The first "Polo for Opera" was held at the state fairgrounds, where the field was too small for the traditional game. After a year-long search for a better site, the guild said it found Pheasant Hollow Farms, which recently converted an area of its property into a standard 300-yard-by-160-yard polo grounds.

Teams from the Utah Polo Club, Sun Valley Polo Club and Jackson Hole Polo Club will participate in this year's matches. There will be two matches each day, with the championship rounds played on Sunday.

Entertainment will be featured during intermissions, and professional polo announcers will explain the rules and interesting aspects of the sport during the matches, the guild spokesman said.

General admission tickets will be available at the gate, but the $35 tickets must be purchased in advance at the Utah Opera box office, 50 W. 200 South, or by calling 484-4532 or 534-0359.

Patron tables are also available and include a special reception with polo players Saturday night. For more information call 534-8042.
