Four Ogden men were indicted by a federal grand jury in Salt Lake City Thursday on charges they conspired to manufacture methamphetamines.

Named in the indictment were Michael Storey, 34, Robin Thackeray, 35, James Garcia, 52, and John Brady, 35. The indictment also charges Storey and Brady with attempting to possess chemicals and/or equipment used to manufacture the illegal drug.U.S. Attorney Dee Benson said at a press conference Friday morning the indictment followed months of investigation by federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.

"The commitment shown by state, local and federal agencies to this investigation and the results that were obtained by the combined efforts of those involved demonstrate that law enforcement is achieving significant success in the drug war in northern Utah and elsewhere," said Benson.

The indictment states that the four men conspired to manufacture the illegal drug from about June until Aug. 18, the day the four men were arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail where they remain. No trial date has been set.

Weber County Attorney Reed Richards said the case was given to the U.S. attorney's office because federal laws carry stiffer penalties.

Reed said the four defendants could get probation if convicted under state law. Under federal rules, if convicted, the four men would be sentenced to serve from 10 years to life in prison.

Assistant U.S. Attorney David Schwendiman told the media the investigation was continuing and more indictments could be forthcoming. "This is not the end," he said.

Schwendiman declined to discuss the specifics of the case but said a major drug lab was closed due to the actions of law enforcement.

"We're highly skilled and we're getting better and better," said the assistant attorney. "If you want to do it (manufacture drugs), we're going to find you."
