Vern Ivan Taft, age 70, passed away peacefully August 3, 1991, at his home in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Born November 22, 1920, in Richfield Utah, to Ivan L. and Alda Russell Taft. He married Utella Smith on August 29, 1940, in Lehi, Utah. Vern served his country in the Sixth Marines, in the Pacific Theater during WW II. For a time, he owned and operated Kirby of Murray, but Vern was a plumber in the construction industry most of his life. An active High Priest in the LDS Church, he served in many positions over his life, including two stake missions. He especially enjoyed attending the Temple and visited the Jordan River Temple as often as he could.Vern derived great joy from his family, especially his grandchildren, who he called his "greatest treasurers here on earth."

He will be sorely missed by all.

Survived by his wife Utella, of Salt Lake City, three sons, Michael V. (and Dianne) Taft, J. Neil (& Sandie) Taft and Russell S.(& Paula) Taft, all from Salt Lake City; a daughter, Cheryl (&Keith) Rauzon, Port Washington, NY; nine grandchildren; twogreat-grandchildren; four sisters, Beth Densley, Barbara Sturm,Colleen Leader and Evelyn Christensen, also all from Salt LakeCity; and a brother, Allen Taft, San Mateo, CA. Preceded in death by brother, Newell.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 7th, 12 noon, atthe East Mill Creek 4th Ward, 3103 East 3600 So. Friends may callTuesday, from 6 to 8 pm, at the Holbrook Funeral Chapel, 3251 So.2300 East, and at the church on Wednesday for one hour prior to theservices. Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
