Citing a number of human and animal studies in which fat-rich diets have been shown to promote obesity regardless of caloric restriction, while increased consumption of complex carbohydrates and fiber have been shown to improve weight-loss results on reduced-calorie diets, Dr. Wayne C. Miller of Indiana University concluded that the most successful weight-loss programs are those that emphasize diet composition rather than just calorie-counting.
