To the editor:
Some of the articles that appear in your newspaper concerning gangs in our area make some of us readers wonder why we pay the public servants who are supposed to keep gang activity out of our city. They have to be accepting their paychecks under false pretenses. It seems like they want to allow the gangs to keep up their illicit activities just so the authorities will have something to do. Some of the excuses they come up with for not eliminating gang activity are really ridiculous.
Get rid of gangs by merely putting the parents in jail. One day for the first offense, three days for the second offense and one week for the third offense, a month for the fourth offense. The offenses seldom would go past the second one.
After all, isn't it the parents' responsibility to look after their own children? We need to wake up some of our public servants and put them to work.
