While most libraries stress summer reading programs, the Salt Lake City Public Library System is staging a year-round reading program.
Free monthly calendars will provide children with reading suggestions, tips for parents, a place to record the books read, a calendar of library activities and trivia.
A bookmark contest will kick off the fall season and children are invited to submit original bookmark art designs that illustrate the theme: "The World is an Open Book." Entry forms are available at all library locations.

Salt Lake County will begin the "Bridges" volunteer program in September. Volunteers age 50 or older will work in a specific classroom for a minimum of four hours per week.
Volunteers will assist the classroom teacher and will also work one-on-one with students who may need special help.
