Melva Afton Finlinson Oborn, 84, of Payson, died Sunday Sept. 1, 1991 at the home of her daughter following a short illness.
She was born Nov. 26, 1906 in Lemington, Utah, a daughter of William Jeff and Mary Olive Walker Finlinson. She married Dr. Norman Oborn June 16, 1930 in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; he died April 23, 1985. She was educated in the Hinckley schools and graduated valedictorian from the Hinckley High School. She attended Utah State University and graduated from Brigham Young University with a teaching degree. She taught school in Payson for some 20 years.She was president of the Utah American Legion Auxillary and a member of the Utah Dental Association Auxillary. She was also a member of the Daughter of Utah Pioneers, the Cultus Club and the La Nesta Chorus.
She was a member of the LDS Church and served in various capacities. She served and LDS Mission in the Northwestern States, and was an ardent temple worker in the Provo LDS Temple.
Survivors include three sons and one daughter: Gordon Norman Oborn, Provo; Lynn Finlinson Oborn, Langley Air Force Base, Virginia; Harold Kent Oborn, Diamond Bar, Calif.; Mrs. Carl (Gene) Ingersoll, American Fork; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters, Walker Finlinson, Lemington; George Theon Finlinson, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Leslie (Mergie) Walker, Pocatello, Idaho; Mrs. Kenneth (Norda) Gardner, Clearfield. She was preceded in death by one brother, Welby Finlinson and one sister, Leda Greathouse.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Payson 18th Ward Chapel, 789 South 700 West, Payson. Friends may call at the Walker Mortuary in Payson, 587 South 100 West, Wednesday, 6-8 p.m. and Thursday at the ward chapel one hour prior to services. Burial, Payson City Cemetery.
